About

Hi, I’m Kevin Thompson. I’m a 24 year old web developer from San Diego, California, I’m engaged to a wonderful woman, and I’m a geek.

Career

My career in web development began as an interest in finding new and unique ways to expose large audiences to emerging trends and technologies. I found my passion for web technologies while attending college, majoring in computer science and tailored my education to lead me to a degree in Internet and Multimedia Technology. Shortly after graduating college, I founded a small business technology management firm which specialized in a wide range of services including web development. In order to broaden my understanding of the web development industry, I later took a job as a developer for Search Engine Optimization Inc. Over the course of a year, I rose to become the Director of Web Development at SEO Inc. before moving with my fiance to El Centro, Ca where I became a Senior Web Developer for Conveyor Group, a creative agency.

I have recently returned to San Diego, Ca where I now work with various companies as a freelance developer and consultant specializing in PHP and MySQL web application development as well as client-side development utilizing semantic XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, and search engine optimization.

Interests

Lately I’ve become increasingly more interested in social media and it’s effect on and uses within our culture. I enjoy engaging in social media just as much as analyzing, but I think I most enjoy the communication and collaboration that comes out of connecting with people. When I’m not exploring the social space or writing scripts for sites such as 12seconds.tv, I can usually be found playing video games or snowboarding (depending on the season).

I’ve only been snowboarding for about two years now, but it’s by far my favorite outdoor activity. Every year I look forward to weekend snowboarding trips with friends and the annual trip to mammoth mountain with my fiance.

I’m also an avid gamer and have been for as far back as I can remember. It’s something I love doing and will continue to do for years to come. Most nights I can be found playing a few games of Call of Duty: World at War or Gears of War 2 on Xbox Live with friends. My PS3 has become my Blu-Ray movie player, but there are a few games on the horizon that I’m looking forward to, and my Wii doesn’t get much use aside from holiday family get togethers. Besides being a hell of a lot of fun, online gaming has been a great way for me to keep in touch with old friends who’ve moved out of the area.
